Submit Comments on the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (DGAC) Scientific Report

Last week, the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (DGAC) released their Scientific Report, laying the groundwork for the next five years of federal dietary guidance. As USDA and HHS work to finalize 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGAs), the agencies have opened up a 30-day comment period and will be accepting written public comments on the committee’s report through August 13, 2020.

Today NCBA launched a #BenefitsofBeef comment campaign and are calling on our state affiliates and producer membership to submit comments. NCBA has tilted up an online submission platform for producers to file comments, which can be accessed on the policy.ncba.org website or directly by clicking here.  We are asking our affiliates to encourage their members to weigh in through this platform and will be reaching out to cattle producers directly via e-mail blast, text messages, social media, and earned media between now and Aug. 13.

A link to NCBA’s press release can be found here and we encourage you to stay tuned for some exciting shareable social media materials in the coming weeks. While the 2020 DGAC report is largely positive for beef, NCBA does believe there is room for improvement. Not only that, but of the 1,300+ comments filed thus far, a vast majority appear to be driven by a vegan activist campaign. As such, producer engagement is going to be critically important.

Again, please keep an eye out for more #BenefitsofBeef content on Facebook (@BeefUSA) and Twitter (@BeltwayBeef), and encourage your members to comment here before the August 13th deadline.

Thanks so much,
